Taste of India Dinner Fundraiser

Friday, November 12, 2021 6:00pm

The Forest Hills Public School Chinese Immersion Parent Advisory Committee is excited to launch a series of fundraiser dinners that began  Friday, November 12, 2021 from 6pm-9pm.  The fundraising efforts focused on technology and communication needs. Hosted by CHI-PAC Secretary, Yelena Wells, and parent volunteers Cecilia Granstrom and Sushma Shenoy, the goal of the fundraiser was to raise funds for the CHI-PAC fhchineseimmersion.org website.  This website will enable us to increase awareness of the program, build partnerships with Forest Hills business leaders, expand communication and develop the Immersion family community, and more importantly aid us in student development.

“What an amazing evening! It was TOP notch in every sense. Thanks for doing this not only for the program but our little community. The food, the art, the amazing piano pieces. It was a total delight.”

“I love the Chinese Immersion program because it not only gave my son an opportunity to learn a new language, but it provided our whole family with new connections and lifelong friendships.”

Thank you Mark and Yelena Wells

A special evening!

This experience will be unique as you will delight in the taste of Indian cuisine, complimentary wine, an art exhibit, and live musical entertainment.

There is value in mastering a second language.  Roughly 17% of the globe speaks Mandarin.  The Chinese Immersion Program provides our kids the opportunity for critical thinking, cognitive flexibility, and cultural literacy.

Closing Performance

Enjoy Gamelan Orchestra-inspired piano works by Claude Debussy.

Yelena Wells, CHI-PAC Secretary closed the evening with a piano performance of Clair de Lune and Jardins sous la pluie (Gardens in the rain) by French Impressionist Claude Debussy.

Claude Debussy was first exposed to the exotic sounds of Javanese Gamelan at the World Exposition of 1889. He incorporated pentatonic scale and tone clusters in his music present in Javanese compositions.

Debussy’s impressionistic musical style reflects that of his visual art contemporaries Monat and Renoir. Clair de Lune, one of the most famous piano works was inspired by French poet Paul Verlaine’s poem Claire de Lune.
